Police and emergency responders were on scene in woods located off of Route 453/Janesville Pike, above Bastions Road in Snyder Township, Monday evening for a reported hunting accident that left one dead.

The hunting accident, resulting in a gunshot to the victim, occurred approximately a mile and a half into the woods, according to a state game warden.

Blair County Coroner Patricia Ross said one man accidentally shot another man, age 42, in the incident. Both men were reportedly from the Tyrone area. An autopsy was scheduled for Tuesday.

One local resident said that is where her family hunts, but they were all home and safe at the time. She joined many area residents in sympathizing with the hunters’ families.

The investigation is continuing and police will release additional information as it becomes available.
