A preliminary hearing was set for Tuesday against a man who reportedly engaged in sexual conversation with a minor in 2017. The incident is cited as taking place in Tyrone Township.
Joshua M. Sherlock, 31, of Port Royal was charged by State Police at Lewistown in early 2017 with second-degree felony filming sexual acts, second-degree felony unlawful contact with a minor, third-degree felony sexual abuse of children, third-degree felony criminal use of a communication facility, third-degree felony dissemination of obscene material to minors, three counts of first-degree misdemeanor manufacturing of obscene material, and first-degree misdemeanor corruption of minors.
In early February 2017, it was discovered by the State Police Troop G criminal investigation unit that a 13-year-old male juvenile had been in contact with adult males on a free downloadable app on his iPad. The juvenile reportedly told police he had sent nude photographs and videos of himself to multiple men, and those individuals were also sending photographs.
Upon forensic analysis of the device, multiple conversations between the victim and Sherlock were uncovered, including images. Court documents further detail parts of the conversation between the victim and Sherlock, in which Sherlock requests several sexual images and videos from the minor, as well as sexual desires and preferences.
Investigation of IP addresses led police to a four-county area serviced by Mount Nittany Media. Surrounding police departments assisted in the identification of Sherlock.
Sherlock was arraigned on June 24 and a felony warrant was issued. Bail was set at $100,000 straight cash.
