If you walk past many of the first-grade classrooms at Tyrone Elementary School, you could quite possibly see some type of small robot passing by the door. That would be because the students programmed (or coded) that robot.

In Ms. Jamison’s classroom, students are using BeeBots that have been borrowed from the IU08 lending library and Ozobots to learn about coding. Other first grade teachers have been using Dash and Dot, and the Code & Go Robot Mouse as well.

The first graders are having a blast as they are developing essential 21st Century skills. Learning to code helps students develop perseverance and problem-solving skills. They work collaboratively with their friends and learn to communicate more effectively while they code their robots.

In addition to all the fun and learning going on in the classrooms, first graders are getting coding experience in their Technology special with Mrs. Litzinger. Tyrone first graders had a great learning experience with this unit!
