Edwin F. Beschler

Edwin F. Beschler, 86, passed away April 29, 2018 in Boston, MA.

He was born December 27, 1931 in Tyrone to the late John L. and Stella (Ross) Beschler.

A 1949 graduate of Tyrone Area High School, he went on to study at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in New York City, before he was drafted into the Army and sent into the Korean conflict where he worked in Special Services, making sure that those who came to entertain the troops were well cared for. He used his Veteran’s Benefits to attend Columbia University where he received his BA degree in mathematics. His first job after college was in high level scientific publishing in Manhattan, working for Academic Press, Inc., where he eventually became president and had a 25-year career.

Edwin’s life-long passion was the theater---as an actor at first and later as a devoted theatergoer. Once he retired in 1998, he immediately returned to whatever roles on stage he could obtain, and was an extra in several movies. He was also a reader for the Blind and Dyslexic both in New York City and in Cambridge, MA.

He is survived by his wife, Fern (Mautner) Beschler and three children: Marc Christian Beschler of New York City, Ross Lorentz Beschler of Philadelphia, and Leigh Sydney Moore Beschler of Arlington, MA. His only grandchild was much beloved, Darion Edwin Phoeurng, of Arlington, MA, age 11.

Edwin also leaves his sister, Beverly (Beschler) Spiller and her husband Donald, of La Porte, Texas; a brother, Samuel Beschler of Tyrone; and was pre-deceased by his brother, John L. Beschler Jr. of Philipsburg, PA. He has many nieces and nephews of whom he was quite fond, many of whom still live in the Altoona-Tyrone-Philipsburg area, three in Texas, one in Trenton, New Jersey, one in Minneapolis, MN, and one in Barrytown, NY. His niece, Cindy (Beschler) Dickson and her husband Robert Mark of Sinking Valley were very special to him.
