Robert A. Harpster, 84, died peacefully on July 8, 2021, at Epworth Manor in Tyrone, Pa.
He was the son of Merrill E. Harpster and Ethel Mae Emeigh Harpster. He is survived by a sister, Donna Jean Harpster Fleming; niece Cathy Y. Reese, whom he loved dearly; nephews John Scott Dean and James Robert Dean, who grew up in Maryland and now reside in Tyrone; and loving brother-in-law, John Dean, of Mt. Dora, Fla. He was preceded in death by a sister, Joan Marie Harpster Dean, who died June 17, 1994.
Robert resided with his lifetime partner, Herm Leitzel, in Sunbury, Pa., for 46 years. Herm died Aug. 30, 2020. If there is such a thing, Bob died of a broken heart. Bob was best friends with Don and Peg Baney. His favorite cousin was Glen Clouser and his wife Dotty Clouser.
He was a member of the Dungarvin Methodist Church until they consolidated to the Warriors Mark United Methodist Church. He played the piano for Sunday School and church for many years.
He served in the U.S. Air Force from Sept. 1955 to Sept. 15, 1963, in both Korea and Japan.
There was nothing that Bob loved more than music, music, music! When he graduated from Tyrone High School in 1955, he was singing in senior choir and mixed chorus. He was a tenor soloist and placed first seat in the PA All State Chorus. He sang for weddings, funerals, and talent shows. He had a beautiful tenor voice. He will now join the angels in heaven to sing those beautiful hymns, and the angels will welcome him with open wings. His favorite hymn was O Holy Night. He is gone but never will be forgotten.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Bruce E. Cox Funeral Home, Warriors Mark.
