In the last of our four parts of Football Camp Diaries, The Daily Herald talked to Bellwood-Antis senior Evan Pellegrine on the start of camp and on the Blue Devils’ upcoming season.
Q: How has the summer and the first week of camp been going so far?
A: “In the summer we focused a lot on our speed and strength, but last week and this week have been a lot of mental preparation. We’re just making sure we have everything down, and getting ready for the Central scrimmage this weekend.”
Q: How has the transition from Year 1 to Year 2 been with Coach Lovrich?
A: “It’s been really smooth. He keeps coming up with new ways to keep us fired up and keep us ready for games.”
Q: Do you prefer offense or defense?
A: “I like defense. Every single play you have an opportunity to change the game.”
Q: What is special about playing in the Backyard Brawl for the last time?
A: “It’s just crazy to think that this is our last ride with our brothers that we’ve been playing with since seventh grade. It’s a lot of preparation. There will be a lot of emotion in that game. You’ll see us all pretty fired up for that game.”
