The Tyrone Golden Eagles took a step towards reclaiming their Mountain League title Thursday afternoon after an 11-1 beatdown of the Huntingdon Bearcats.

Aiden Coleman got the start for the Golden Eagles and showed Tyrone fans the Coleman they are used to seeing. He surrendered only one hit over three innings, striking out three, including an inning where he struck out all three Huntingdon hitters who came up to the plate that inning.

David Lang finished the game out on the mound pitching the final two innings, allowing one run and one hit and striking out one.

Tyrone got the scoring started in the first inning on a base hit from Brendan Grazier who has been red hot over the past week. He singled to shallow left field, allowing Blaine Hoover to cross the plate.

After a passed ball allowed Rodney Shultz to score, Tyrone did the main damage when Nick Lehner lined a base hit into left field, bringing home Grazier from third and Brooks around from second giving Tyrone a 4-0 lead.

Tyrones’s offense exploded for five more runs in the bottom of the second inning, starting off with none other than Brenden Grazier whose line drive single to right field scored Blaine Hoover and Brandon Lucas. Nick Lehner continued his big day with another RBI single bringing Rodney Shultz home to score this time.

The Golden Eagles delivered the final blow of the inning when Zack Legars sent a shot into the right center gap for a double, bringing home Brendan Grazier and Luke Brooks as well as advancing Nick Lehner to third.

After giving up a run to the Bearcats in the top of the fifth inning, Tyrone scored two runs in the bottom half of the inning including a walk off courtesy of Luke Brooks. Brooks’ ground ball was hit too hard for the Bearcat second baseman to handle bringing in Dylan Vipond for the winning run.

The Golden Eagles’ record improved to 5-2 on the season with a 3-2 Mountain League record after Thursday’s win. They look to build on Thursday’s victory Friday afternoon when they travel to Juniata Valley.
