Tyrone Lady Golden Eagles head to District VI playoffs

The Tyrone Lady Golden Eagles just completed their best softball season in years and will be heading to the District VI Class AAA softball playoffs to face off with Cambria Heights at Mount Aloysius College on May 23 at 4 p.m.

The Tyrone Lady Golden Eagles offense was completely shutdown in the regular season finale against the Central Scarlet Dragons. The Tyrone offense could only muster two base hits for the game and never had a runner to second base during their 7–0 loss to the Scarlet Dragons on Wednesday afternoon in Tyrone.

The game was a pitchers dual through the first two innings at which time Lady Golden Eagle ace pitcher Cate Baran recorded her 400th strikeout for her career. Baran also holds the Tyrone Lady Golden Eagle school record for most strikeouts.

In the scoreless third inning with two outs Alana Padula reached first base on a bunt single. The next batter Ashley Neagly hit a ball to deep right center that was off the glove of Callie Maceno that went for a two base error and scored Neagly, who was running all the way from first. The Scarlet Dragons took the lead 1-0 and would never give it up the remainder of the game.

The game remained that way until the top of the fifth when the Lady Dragons put a walk, a signal and a double together for two more runs. The Lady Golden Eagles found themselves now down 3-0 going into the bottom of the fifth inning.

The game remained that way until the top of the seventh inning as the Lady Dragons would put the game out of reach for good by scoring four runs. A lead off double by Bailey Huston and a single by Alana Padula would account for one run. Dylan Claycomb then cleared the bases with a three run home run to left field. Going into the bottom of the seventh inning the Lady Scarlet Dragons were now on top by the score of 7-0.

Tyrone could not get anything going offensively and ended up dropping this contest by the score of 7-0.

The winning pitcher for Central was Dylan Claycomb, who definitely helped her cause with the big seventh inning three run home run. In addition to only giving up two hits to Tyrone, Claycomb only issued one walk through the seven innings.

Central left Tyrone with a regular season record of 14-6.

The Lady Golden Eagles ended their regular season with a record of 13-7, which is the best regular season finish in years for the Lady Golden Eagles.

The Lady Golden Eagles will begin the District 6 Class 4A playoffs on Thursday when they will play Central Cambria at Mount Aloysius College in Cresson.
