The Tyrone Lady Eagles went into the regular season finale last night against Bald Eagle Area 17-3 after more or less decimating their Mountain League competition, so it’s hard to imagine self-assurance would be an issue against one of the league’s bottom tier teams.

But on the heels of a demoralizing loss to Hollidaysburg on Tuesday, which snapped Tyrone’s 12-game winning streak, it was. What the Lady Eagles needed was a fast start dust off any residual effects from their lowest scoring output of the season, and against the Lady Bald Eagles, they got it.

Tyrone stormed to a 20-point lead after the first quarter and limited BEA to a single field goal in the second on its way to a fourth mercy rule victory this season, topping Bald Eagle 70-50 in Wingate.

“It was very important to get out to a quick start after last night,” said Tyrone coach Luke Rhoades. “I was worried about our confidence. We didn’t play well against Hollidaysburg, and we made careless mistakes.”

Four Lady Eagles reached double-figures and the team connected on 11 three-pointers to help Tyrone secure the No. 1 seed in the upcoming District 6 3A playoffs. The team improved to 18-3 overall and concluded its Mountain League season 14-0.

Jaida Parker led Tyrone with a game-high 20 points. Emma Getz (13) and Stephanie Ramsey (11) each hit three three-pointers, and Maci Brodzina chipped in 10.

The Lady Eagles limited BEA to single-digit scoring in every frame, including 3-point and 4-point outputs in the second and fourth.

Tyrone led 27-7 after the first quarter and 43-10 by halftime in the Lady Eagles’ most lopsided victory since defeating Philipsburg-Osceola by 60 on January 10.

BEA ended its season 7-15 overall and 3-11 in the conference.
