Tyrone Legion has had a knack for closing out games, and particularly getting ahead early so far this season.
Tuesday's game was a rarity for Tyrone, which led 5-2 after six innings.
Patton Legion scored five runs on five hits while taking advantage of two Tyrone errors in the top of the seventh to rally for a 7-5 win in George B. Kelley Federation League action at Geesey Park.
Patton tied the game with two outs in the seventh, and ultimately got a couple more runs to take the lead, which was their first lead since the top of the second.
"When we had it at 5-2, I thought we had them," said Tyrone assistant coach Kevin Soellner. "We still have to make outs. We gave away runs. It's little things. We talk about one-run and two-run games where every run matters. They have to execute."
With runners at the corners and one out in the top of the seventh, Tyrone Legion pitcher Nic Light tried to pick off Patton baserunner Matt Sedlock at first. Sedlock broke for second base and was originally called out, but the umpire then ruled him safe as the runner at third base scored on the play.
Later in the inning with runners at first and second and two outs, Josh Miller doubled to right field to score both runners and tie the game. J.T. Elias singled home Miller to take the lead.
Patton scored one more run before Tyrone recorded the third out.
In the bottom of the seventh, Tyrone's Michael Buck doubled down the left field line to lead off, but Patton pitcher Ryan Bearer sat down the next three batters to end the game.
Down 1-0 in the bottom of the second, Tyrone took the lead for the first time after scoring twice. Brendan Grazier and Michael Stoner both had base hits, and Light sacrificed the runners over. The ball got away from first base, and Grazier scored on the play.
Buck grounded out to score Stoner to make it 2-1.
In the bottom of the third, Andrew Pearson hit a one-out two-run double to score Blaine Hoover and Brandon Lucas. Pearson then manufactured another run by stealing third base and taking home off a throwing error to make it 5-1.
Patton added another run in the top of the fourth off an Owen Bougher RBI single, but Light kept Patton off the board in the next two innings.
In his complete game loss, Light allowed seven runs with all but one being unearned. He walked one and struck out four.
Stoner and Buck led Tyrone at the plate with two hits apiece.
Tyrone Legion is now 9-2 on the season. They are off the rest of the week and will take on Martin Oil on Monday evening at 6 p.m. back at Geesey Park.
