The Tyrone swimming teams both improved to 8-1 as both the boys and girls defeated Marion Center on Monday evening at the Tyrone High School pool.
The Golden Eagles won, 99-71, while the Lady Eagles took a 122-48 decision.
”We really had some good swims, especially with limited practice time the past week,” said Tyrone head coach Tom Getz. “We were able to get a few more swimmers qualified for additional events at districts, and had some kids swim some of their best times. We have a few more within a second of qualifying, so we really need to get them in as well.”
The big highlight of the day came on the boys side as the 400 free relay team of Jacob Decker, Parker Bayard, Hjalte Skov, and Songmian Wang broke a 24-year-old school record in the event with a time of 3:32.92.
In addition to swimming a leg in the event that broke the school record, Decker also picked up three more wins in the 50 free and 100 back, while also swimming a leg in the 200 medley relay with Matt Lenze, Bayard, and Wang. Wang also won two individual events in the 200 IM and the 100 butterfly to give him four victories with Decker.
Lenze (100 breast) and Skov (100 free) also earned a win each
Bayard also grabbed a pair of second place finishes (50 free, 100 back), while Lenze (200 free), Hunter Gregg (500 free), and Ben Delbaggio (100 breast) all picked up a second.
Delbaggio (200 IM, 500 free) and Carter Maceno (200 free, 100 free) each took a pair of third place finishes.
On the girls side, Fiona McConnell and Madison Coleman were both quadruple winners on the night. McConnell and Coleman teamed with Mae Decker and Sarah E. Hoover to win both the 200 medley relay and 400 free relays. McConnell (200 free, 100 breast) and Coleman (50 free, 100 free) also grabbed a pair of individual wins.
The Lady Eagles also won the third relay race with the team of Victoria Reese, Jamyson Focht, Sarah Manna, and Cate Baran.
Decker (100 back), Reese (100 butterfly), Sarah E. Hoover (200 IM), and Sarah M. Hoover (500 free) all grabbed one individual win apiece.
Baran took two second places in the 200 IM and 100 free, while Sarah M. Hoover (200 free), Decker (50 free), and Sarah E. Hoover (100 breast) all had one.
Focht (50 free), Manna (100 free), and Reese (100 back) all garnered a third place finish.
”Both the boys and girls continue to put great swims together, and we are getting numerous swimmers get us some big points,” said Getz. “We have two more big meets this week, then we need to get some good practice in to get ready for the district meet.”
With weather permitting, Tyrone visits Mifflin County this evening and then finishes the regular season with a trip to Ligonier Valley on Thursday.
