Southern Huntingdon County High School graduate Mikara Anderson was among the 15 Pennsylvania students enrolled in college agriculture programs the Pennsylvania Farm Show Scholarship Foundation presented scholarships totaling $52,500 to during 2021 Pennsylvania Farm Show.

Since its inception, the foundation has awarded more than $1.7 million to assist young agriculturists in preparing for the workforce.

“Since its start in 1993, the Pennsylvania Farm Show Scholarship Foundation has supported career preparation for tomorrow’s agriculture leaders,” said Agriculture Secretary Russell Redding. “We look forward to watching these students’ careers in agriculture grow as they join us in ‘Cultivating Tomorrow’.”

This year’s recipients were each awarded $3,500. Ten students currently enrolled in Pennsylvania State University’s College of Agricultural Sciences, including Anderson, will receive an additional $2,000 from the university.

Anderson, of Three Springs, is the daughter of Holly and Gerald Anderson. She is a sophomore at Penn State University where she is studying animal science.

After graduation, Anderson plans to pursue a career in state or federal government to advocate for and educate the public about the agriculture industry.

The Pennsylvania Virtual Farm Show features hundreds of online educational and entertaining events and resources.
