SCV Lions to host monthly hootenanny

ONEIDA TWP. — The Stone Creek Valley Lions Club will hold its monthly hootenanny at 6 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 27, at the Lions Barn on Cold Springs Road. The Lions kitchen will be open at 5 p.m. and the meal will be ham potpie, which includes roll, applesauce, cupcake and drink with a full menu of other items available.

There is never a charge to attend the hootenanny; however, a jar is put out to collect donations for a local family or individual in need. This month’s recipient is Samantha Shoemaker Wilson.

In April 2021, Samantha was diagnosed with breast cancer while pregnant with her first child. She gave birth to a healthy baby boy, Kade, July 31. After the birth of her son, she learned she had developed tumors in other parts of her body due to a gene mutation. She will not know if these tumors are benign or malignant until after she has abdominal surgery at the end of December. Two weeks after the abdominal surgery, she will undergo a double mastectomy. She is doing weekly chemotherapy treatments until the end of November and then she will do treatments every three weeks for a year. At this time, she does not know if she will have to have radiation or if any other procedures will be needed.

She is unable to work at this time. She and her husband, Luke, are facing increasing expenses associated with travel, surgeries and insurance deductibles.{/div}Come out to the Lions Club to enjoy good music, food and company and to help a family in need.

The SCV Lions Club is always looking for new members. If you enjoy helping others, talk to any Lions Club member about how you can join.
