In regards to a story in Wednesday’s edition of The Daily News announcing the Tussey Mountain School District’s retention of borough police officer Dave Buseck as its school resource officer (SRO), Saxton Borough Mayor Alan Smith wished to make a few clarifications to the story.

Whole all indications point to the conclusion that the aforementioned will be the case, Smith said an agreement between Saxton Borough Council and the school district has yet to be reached. He said there are some issues that need to be addressed between the two parties before an agreement is reached.

Smith said he has been in communication with district officials regarding the matter with thoughts the issue can be settled before the start of the 2019-20 school year. He also recognized council remains strongly supportive and recognizes the right of the school district in funding the SRO to set parameters, expectations and duties.
