New Day Charter School hosted a Pizza Hut Night fundraiser this past Thursday at the Smithfield Township eatery to raise money for the local charity known as CHAMP (Creating Hope and Making Progress. From 4-9 p.m., Pizza Hut donated 20% of their sales generated to the CHAMP.
“Pizza Hut does multiple fundraisers to help out people in the community. We always look for ways to give back, and fundraisers like this one typically do well because people care,” said Pizza Hut store manager Janelle Wiele.
Students from Mount Union Area High School were showing their spirit for CHAMP by driving to Huntingdon to buy some pizza and wings.
“I’m thankful that we live in such a giving community. That the surrounding businesses offer us a chance to do things like this,” stated junior and MU CHAMP captain Taylor Grove.
Some people who didn’t attend the event still had something to say about it. “I didn’t go because I live 45 minutes away, and I didn’t have the time to go,” said NDCS Senior Libby Rinde. “I think it’s nice that it’s something a lot of people would’ve done anyway, but instead the money goes towards a good cause.”
Junior Sierra Peck said that, while she didn’t attend the fundraiser night, she is looking forward to attending the actual CHAMP event.
New Day CHAMP captains are still looking for additional CHAMP volunteers for this year’s event. Remember there is still plenty of time to get involved!
