Tussey Mountain High School Drama Department presented “Thoroughly Modern Millie” March 1,2 and 5.
The musicalm set in the roaring 1920s, follows a young Millie Dillmount played by Delaney Reed to New York City, where she hopes to find a secretarial job with a wealthy boss that she can later marry. Sarah Johnson the choral and general music teacher at Tussey Mountain High School also acted as the head of the drama department.
“I enjoy the musical myself and have been waiting for the right cast to be able to perform this show well. Most importantly, the students were in the mood for this style of musical. It fit our students perfectly,” Johnson said, explaining her choice of musical.
Delaney Reed as previously mentioned was cast as the lead role, Millie. “I’m so happy and thankful that I was chosen for it. I wanted it because she has a lot of awesome songs, and she tap dances too. I can also relate a lot to Millie,” daid Reed.
“My character and I are pretty similar because we are both looking forward to a new chapter in our lives and going somewhere new. She also is kind of awkward at times, which I can definitely relate to as well! We are different though because she has a lot more guts than I do. I could never move to Manhattan and live on my own, let alone still be standing tall after being mugged and losing everything, like she had done,” she continued.
“The cast really appreciates the opportunity they get to be a part of the cast. I really liked the show overall. I think that this year has been the best set, music, costumes and actors that we have had for a long, long time. I’m going to miss this year a lot,” exclaimed sophomore Kieran Gresko as he expressed his gratitude.
“I couldn’t be happier about their high level of success with this show” concludes Johnson.
