TDN Press Club editor Kylie Hawn had plenty of time to think about the weekly winner for Dec. 21, as student reporters took a few weeks off for the holiday break, but one story kept coming back to her over and over again.

Hawn chose “State police trooper speaks at Rockhill Elementary,” by SHCHS reporter Brooke Carbaugh as the winner for the week of Dec. 21.

“Brooke was able to highlight a positive program at Southern and some of the rewards students will get for their participation in the positive behavior program,” said Hawn. “Also, she was able to capture a fantastic image of Trooper Joseph Dunsmore, public information officer of Troop G, state police at Hollidaysburg, with the students at Rockhill Elementary School. A picture is worth a thousand words, and Carbaugh hit it out of the park with her image, which is the perfect complement to her story.”

An honorable mention goes to Juniata Valley’s Rachel Foster for highlighting another program at the elementary school in her district.

“Foster was able to capture the entire experience of Colonial day by gathering a variety of quotes from the teachers and students,” said Hawn.

Carbaugh will receive $25 for her work.
