Katie Baney's English Class at Southern Huntingdon County High/Middle School

Students in Katie Baney’s eighth period English class at Southern Huntingdon County High/Middle School use The Daily News as part of the Newspaper In Education program.

Newspapers In Education (NIE) is an excellent program offered to all Huntingdon County school districts! As a 6th-grade social studies teacher at the Southern Huntingdon County Middle School, I am fortunate to receive daily bundles of newspapers through the classroom sponsorship of Juniata College.

I appreciate having the opportunity to utilize The Daily News as an instructional tool with the 6th-grade students when local, national, and international events addressed within the classroom. With the world of technology being a daily part of students' lives, there is still a logical and educational value for the newspaper at the school setting for instructional purposes.

I commend all of the teachers at Southern Huntingdon County High School/Middle School and across Huntingdon County for implementing "Your Hometown Newspaper" in their daily and weekly objectives and lessons.

The ideas for newspaper implementation in any subject are limitless, and I urge local educators to continue to use The Daily News for this purpose.

Once again, a special "THANK YOU" to Juniata College for being the "classroom sponsor" for the 6th-grade social studies classroom newspaper. Your educational support is appreciated and welcomed!
