Betty Jean Gardner, 96, 5327 Shavers Creek Road, Petersburg, died Thursday, May 9, 2019, at her home.
Born Oct. 2, 1922, in Union Furnace, she was a daughter of Antonio and Marion (Miles) Lalli. She was united in marriage to Ralph J. Gardner April 17, 1944, by the Rev. Dr. Tobias F. Henry at the Stone Church of the Brethren in Huntingdon. Mr. Gardner preceded her in death Dec. 1, 1995.
Mrs. Gardner is survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
The last surviving member of her immediate family, she was preceded in death by five brothers and three sisters, Frank Lalli, who passed away at age 7, Kenneth Smith, Joseph Lalli, Frank Lalli, Roy Lalli, Thelma Gill, Delores Keppler and Josephine Whitsel.
Mrs. Gardner was of the Protestant faith.
She was a charter member of the Shavers Creek Volunteer Fire Co. Auxiliary and a member of the ladies auxiliary of the Veterans of World War I.
She was a 1941 graduate of Petersburg Vocational High School.
Mrs. Gardner worked in the Huntingdon Silk Mill at one time, but she was primarily a homemaker.
She enjoyed sewing, crafts, baking and flower gardening.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, May 13, at the Robert E. Peters Funeral Home, Huntingdon, with the Rev. Richard Harter, hospice chaplain, officiating. Interment will be made in the Mooresville Cemetery, Petersburg, West Township.
Friends may call at the funeral home after 7 p.m. Sunday, May 12, and from 9 a.m. Monday until the hour of services.
