Elwood H. Stitt, 89, of 57 Willow Tree Lane, Belleville, passed away Sunday, Nov. 21, 2021, at Penn Highlands Huntingdon.

Born June 9, 1932, in Osceola Mills, Clearfield County, he was a son of the late Warren H. Stitt and Neva M. (Schmittle) Stitt. He married the former Pauline D. Keith Stitt Oct. 28, 1957. She survives at their home.

Also surviving are his children, Sue E. Sellers and husband Bill of Belleville, Betsy A. Yoder and husband Will Jr., Huntingdon, Joseph E. Stitt, Belleville, six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

A sister, Nancy McDonough and husband Patrick of Memphis, Tennessee, also survive.

Along with his parents, he was also preceded in death by a sister, Zoe Frederick of Delta Junction, Alaska.

Mr. Stitt attended the Big Valley Brethren in Christ Church in Belleville.

He

Mr. Stitt served in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Korea.

He served as a 4-H leader for a number of years. He was a supervisor for North Woodbury Township, a member of Blair County Young Farmers, Blair County and Mifflin County Holstein Associations, the Pennsylvania Holstein Association and the National Holstein Association. He was also a member of the Pennsylvania Farm Bureau and served on the Morrison’s Cove Dairy Show Board.

Mr. Stitt was a graduate of Saxton-Liberty High School.

He grew up farming and working in the woods cutting timber. Following his time in the army, he returned to dairy farming and continued that all of his life.

For a number of years, he drove horse and wagon at JB Tree Farm during the Christmas season. He enjoyed attending cattle shows and sales as well as hunting, fishing and just being in the outdoors and watching the seasons change. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his family.

A celebration of his life will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 26, at Maple Grove Mennonite Church with the Rev. John Keefer officiating.

His family will receive friends from 12:30 p.m. until the time of service at the church Friday.
