James Drake, 93, of Lancaster, passed away Friday, May 3, 2019, at Lebanon Veterans Hospital.
Born March 27, 1926, in Kistler, Mount Union, he was the son of the late Foster Drake and Ella McKim Drake and the stepson of Sarah Drake. He was united in marriage to the former Wilda Fleck Sept. 11, 1948, at the Rockhill Church of the Brethren, Rockhill. His wife of 71 years survives.
Mr. Drake is survived by two daughters, Shirley Bushong and husband, Dennis, and Judy Bowser and husband, Garry; five grandchildren, Sheri Barnes and husband, Andy, Jim Bushong and wife, Kerry, Josh Lipman, David Rowe and Justin Rowe; and seven great-grandchildren, Jared Manley, Jaynelle Troxell, Kiersten Barnes, Alex Troxell, Max Bushong, Mitchell Barnes and Molly Bushong.
He was preceded in death by three sisters, Phyllis McDaniels, Gwendolyn Dougherty and Helen-Louise Drake; a stepbrother, Robert Bowser; and a daughter, Rowena Rowe.
Mr. Drake proudly served in the United States Army during World War II from 1945-1946, stationed in Panama to guard the Canal.
He retired from Armstrong in 1988 and High Steel Structures.
Mr. Drake loved hunting, fishing, farming and spending time with family, especially his grandchildren. He was a born and reared mountain boy and one of the best turkey callers Orbisonia has ever seen. Mr. Drake was a dedicated Penn State football fan and Phillies baseball fan.
His celebration of life service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 11, at Hempfield Church of the Brethren, where he was a member.
A receiving of friends will be held one hour prior to the service Saturday at the church.
