John L. Parys, 79, of 14 Oak St., McVeytown, went to be with the Lord Saturday, April 13, 2019, at his home.
Born March 26, 1940, in Laceyville, he was the son of the late Stanley and Thelma Parys. He was united in marriage to the former Sally Croyle in 1962, in Cumberland, Maryland. Mrs. Parys preceded him in death Sept. 4, 2014.
Mr. Parys is survived by three children, John L. “Skull” Parys Jr. and partner, Marie Branthafer, of McVeytown, Angela Marrone of Washington, D.C., and Chris Allen Parys and wife, Susan, of Savannah, Georgia; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
He is also survived by a brother, Stanley Parys of Greensburg.
He was preceded in death by a son, Darren S. Parys July 31, 2010.
During his military service with the United States Navy, Mr. Parys was a jet engine mechanic aboard the USS Coral Sea and the USS Enterprise.
He was retired and for most of his life, he was a journeyman lineman and had also been employed by the state Department of Revenue in computer data entry.
Mr. Parys loved riding motorcycles, was an avid gun collector as well as a gunsmith, a Harry Potter fan and was a knife and coin collector and also a collector of clocks. He was very fond of his dog companions, Max and Zoey.
The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, April 19, at the Robert D. Heath Funeral Home, Mount Union, with Kenny Sipes officiating. Interment will be made in the Memorial Cemetery, Newton Hamilton. Graveside military rites will be performed by the Huntingdon County Honor Guard.
Friends may call from 7-9 p.m. Thursday and after 9 a.m. until the hour of service Friday at the funeral home.
