Lester Melvin Strait Sr., 84, 44 West 32nd St., Huntingdon, died at 10:33 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 13, 2019, at Penn Highlands Huntingdon.

Born March 2, 1935, in Huntingdon, he was the son of Jacob and Nellie (Hershey) Strait. He married the former Kathy M. Cornelius April 17, 1982, at the Stone Church of the Brethren. Mrs. Strait survives at home.

Also surviving are children Lester Melvin Strait Jr. and wife, Holly, York, and Jacob Arthur Strait and Lucas Benjamin Strait, both of Huntingdon, and one grandson, Xayden Michael Benjamin Strait, Huntingdon, and a number of nieces and nephews.

He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.

Mr. Strait was a member of Hesston Community Chapel.

He served in the U.S. Navy with Naval Ordinance Unit, Key West, Fla.

Mr. Strait was employed at J.C. Blair Memorial Hospital as a security officer and then in the maintenance department.

He enjoyed bowling with various leagues, going to the beach and swimming. He also enjoyed spending time with his family and working outdoors.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 16, at the Robert E. Peters Funeral Home, Huntingdon, with the Rev. Scott Decker officiating. Interment will be made in Anderson Cemetery, Hesston.

Friends may call at the funeral home after 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 16, and from 9 a.m. until the hour of the service Saturday.
