Lois “Jo” (Ambrose) Bishop, 87, a lifelong resident of Huntingdon, and most recently of AristaCare at Huntingdon Park, went to be with the Lord at 3:50 p.m. Monday, Dec. 2, 2019, at AristaCare at Huntingdon Park. She had been in failing health for the past two months.

Born June 16, 1932, in Wood, Huntingdon County, she was a daughter of the late William Ernest Ambrose Sr. and Mabel (Cutshall) Ambrose. She was united in marriage to Charles E. “Spud” Bishop Jr. Nov. 21, 1952, at the United Brethren Church, Winchester, Virginia, by the Rev. Dick. Mr. Bishop preceded her in death June 1, 2003.

She is survived by one daughter and one son, LuAnn J. Bishop-Smith and husband, Robert T. Smith, of Lower Paxton Township, Harrisburg, and Burke L. Bishop and wife, Brenda (Landis) Bishop, of Huntingdon; three grandchildren, Whitney J. Smith of Harrisburg, Daniel Bishop and his fiancée, Justine Crawford, of Bedford, and Crystal (Bishop) Solomon and husband, Jason, of Huntingdon; and four great-grandchildren, Andrew and Leah Solomon, Summer Bishop and Grayson Landwehr.

She is also survived by two brothers and a sister, Bernard Ambrose and his wife, Glendell, Malcolm Ambrose and his wife, Donna, and Jennifer Clark, all of Huntingdon; as well as, a number of nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a son, Mark Edward Bishop as well as, three brothers, Ronald Louder, Maynard Ambrose and William E. Ambrose Jr.

Mrs. Bishop was a life member of the 12th Street United Methodist Church, Huntingdon, where she participated in various church-related activities.

She was a former member of the auxiliaries to the Cloyd K. Davis American Legion Post 150, Petersburg, and the Frank P. Hommon American Legion Post 24, Huntingdon.

She attended Huntingdon public schools and was a 1950 graduate of Huntingdon High School.

Primarily a homemaker, Mrs. Bishop was employed by Owens-Corning Fiberglas in Huntingdon from 1968-1975.

Her hobbies included reading, cooking, baking, flower gardening and other outdoor activities, including swimming and walking. She also enjoyed watching good movies and was an avid Philadelphia Eagles fan.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 5, at the John B. Brown Funeral Home, 417 Washington St., Huntingdon, with the Rev. Ann Foor officiating. Interment will be in Riverview Cemetery, 245 Standing Stone Ave., Huntingdon.

Friends may call from 10 a.m. until the hour of service Thursday at the funeral home.
