Miriam B. Holtz, 85 of Tyrone, died Saturday, Nov. 9, 2019, at Westminster Woods, Huntingdon.
Born Sept. 25, 1934, she was a daughter of the late George C. And Marian E. Gates Bowman. She was united in marriage to Richard H. Holtz July 22, 1978. Mr. Holtz preceded her in death.
She is survived by one brother, Dean Bowman and wife, Bev, of Bradenton, Florida; eight nieces and nephews: Jeff Bowman and wife, Debby, Andrea Bowman, Beth Nichols, Leslie Bowman, Manita Keach, Chris Bowman and wife, Beth, Charlie Barkman and wife, Lisa, and Sue Barkman.
She was preceded in death by one sister, Mabel B. Barkman; two brothers, John “Jack” Bowman and Baby Lynn Bowman; and two nephews, John and David Bowman.
Mrs. Holtz was a 1952 graduate of Tyrone High School and a 1956 graduate of The Pennsylvania State University. Upon graduation she worked in Bethesda, Maryland, for the NIH in the clinical pathology lab from 1957-1978 before moving home and working at the Altoona General Hospital as the supervisor of the clinical lab until her retirement in 1995.
She was a member of the American Society of Clinical Pathologists, Alpha Mu Tau, The Order of the Eastern Star where she once served as a Matron, Tyrone Women’s Club and the American Legion Auxiliary. She enjoyed Penn State football and traveling.
A memorial service will be held at the First English Lutheran Church of Tyrone at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 14, with the Rev. Sharon Erb officiating.
