Robert D. Purdy Sr., 68, of Mill Creek, passed away at 3:51 p.m. Monday, Nov. 4, 2019, at UPMC Altoona, Altoona, following a recent stroke.

Born Sept. 15, 1951, in Huntingdon, he was a son of the late Robert T. and Bertha (Aldstadt) Purdy. He was united in marriage to the former Evelyn Berich July 3, 1981, in Mount Union. Mrs. Purdy survives at their residence.

In addition to his wife of 38 years, he is survived by two sons, Tim E. Adams of Shade Gap and Robert D. Purdy Jr. and his wife, Essy, of Mill Creek; a stepson, Mike Swanger and his wife, Patty, of Mill Creek; three grandchildren, Samantha Purdy of Huntingdon, Cassady Swanger of Mill Creek, and Alex McGraw and her husband, Seth, of McConnellstown; and a great-grandson, Cam McGraw.

He is also survived by a sister, Susan K. Himes of Mill Creek.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Donald L. Purdy July 13, 2008, and Barry R. Purdy June 2, 2018.

Mr. Purdy was a life member of the Mill Creek Volunteer Fire Co.

He attended Huntingdon public schools.

Mr. Purdy was employed as a welder by the former New Holland North America Inc., Belleville, where he retired after more than 35 years of service.

He was an avid hunter and fisherman and had a passion for country music, especially George Strait and George Jones. In addition, he was very fond of his pet cat, Molly.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 9, at the John B. Brown Funeral Home, 417 Washington St., Huntingdon, with the Rev. Gary Hagans officiating. Interment will be in Mountainview Cemetery, Mill Creek.

Friends may call at the funeral home from 6-9 p.m. Friday, Nov. 8, and 10 a.m. until the hour of service Saturday.
