Roy F. Morningstar, 81, of 3635 Garner Road, James Creek, died at 3:53 a.m. Monday, Nov. 11, 2019, at his residence in James Creek.

Born Sept. 16, 1938, in Lincoln Township, he was a son of Howard Dewey and Sarah Grace (Stone) Morningstar. He was united in marriage to Barbara Ann Thompson June 22, 1958, at the Old Stone Church, James Creek, by the Rev. Tazzler. Mrs. Morningstar survives at their residence.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by six children, Julie Morningstar Shoemaker and husband, Michael, Hesston, Wanda Morningstar Grove, Fayetteville, Kenneth Morningstar and wife, Cindy, of James Creek, Steven Morningstar and wife, Christine, Schellsburg, James Morningstar and wife, Patty, James Creek, and Amy Morningstar Wentz and husband, James, Forest, Virginia; 17 grandchildren, Jackie Hoffmaster and husband, Dustin, Maria Morelli and husband, Tobias, Katelyn Powell and husband, Austin, Jacob Grove and wife, Jess, Sarah Gaither and husband, Ryan, Joshua Grove and Marc, Andy Morningstar and wife, Valerie, Kevin Morningstar, Jonathan Morningstar and wife, Shanda, Tyler Morningstar and fiancée, Kelsay McMullen, Rachel Morningstar Koontz and husband, Brian, Maryellen Burns and husband, Jonathan, Caleb Morningstar, Emily Culbertson and husband, Justin, Matthew Morningstar and Lauren Kifer, Laura Spencer and husband, Tyler, and Amanda Wentz; and 14 great-granchildren, Ezra Hoffmaster, Vera Hoffmaster, Sydnee Morelli, Mason Morelli, Kamryn Grove, Ashlyn Grove, Lillyana Gaither, Rylee Gaither, Rylen Morningstar, Abel Morningstar, Hazel Morningstar, Finley Morningstar, Isabel Morningstar and Tyler Howard “Howie” Spencer.

He is also survived by a brother, Alan Morningstar and wife, Lucille, James Creek, a brother-in-law, Earl Runk, Huntingdon, and three sisters-in-law, Donna Morningstar and Janice Morningstar, both of James Creek, and Patricia Ritz, Entriken.

He was preceded in death by a son, Andrew Charles Morningstar, Jan. 13, 1971, a grandson, Benjamin Charles Morningstar, July 29, 1991; 10 siblings, Eugene, Clyde, Wayne, John, George, Merrell, Dean, Florence, Irene and Verna; sisters-in-law, Betty Louise and Betty Morningstar; and brother-in-law, Dave Fisher.

Mr. Morningstar was of the Christian faith. He was a member of the James Creek Church of the Brethren, Marklesburg.

He was also a member of the Standing Stone FFA and Marklesburg Volunteer Fire Co.

Mr. Morningstar was a 1958 graduate of Huntingdon High School.

He was a longtime owner and operator of Morningstar Farms. He was a self-employed farmer, and worked on the farm since he was 14 years old. In addition, he worked for his parents on their milk truck route for a long number of years.

He loved Jesus, his family, farming, toy trains and his 1954 De Soto. Mr. Morningstar was a lifetime resident of Huntingdon County and had lived at his current address since 1961.

A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Nov. 15, at the Zion United Church of Christ, James Creek, with the Rev. Harvey Wason officiating. Interment will be made in the UCC Cemetery in Marklesburg.

A visitation will be held from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 14, at the Cutright Funeral Homes — Smithfield Chapel, 313 Fairgrounds Road, Huntingdon. There will also be a visitation held at the church one hour prior to the service Friday.
