Shelby Jean Shields,79, formerly of McConnellstown, passed away surrounded by her family, Friday, Feb. 8, 2019, at J.C. Blair Memorial Hospital, Huntingdon.

Born July 24, 1939, in Huntingdon, she was the daughter of the late Marshall Blair and Wilma Ellen (Grace) Gallagher. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Samuel “Zeke” Shields, in 2015, and also by her former husband, William Joseph Smith Jr.

Mrs. Shields is survived by three children, Patty Pyles and husband, Sam, of Mount Union, Kay O’Donnell and fiancé, Fred Deimler, of Harrisburg, and William J. Smith III and wife, Margaret, of Mount Union; seven grandchildren, Boe, Chrystal, Sarah, Kendra, Amanda, Lucas and Billy; and seven great-grandchildren.

She is also survived by her siblings, John “Jack” Gallagher and wife, Tricia, of Derry, New Hampshire, Larry Gallagher and wife, Shirley, of York, and Rhonda Querry and husband, Dave, of Huntingdon; and a number of nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by brothers, Donald and Bruce Gallagher.

Mrs. Shields retired in 2005 from Westminster Woods, Huntingdon, and had previously worked in the environmental service department at J.C. Blair Memorial Hospital, with 20 years of service.

She enjoyed camping, gardening, music, and reading and her greatest love was spending time with her family.

There will be a memorial service at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 13, at the Robert D. Heath Funeral Home, Mount Union, with Joseph Barrett, pastor, officiating. A graveside service will be held at a later date at the convenience of the family.

There will be no public viewing.
