Huntingdon — I saw on the news that Huntingdon has more complaints this year about sidewalks not being cleared. But if you live in town or own a house, you’re responsible for clean the walkway, not the borough. If you don’t clean it you can be fined over $200. Is it right that you’re supposed to do a borough job?

* * * * *

Huntingdon — A big thank you to all the people involved in keeping our roads snow and ice free! Even the trails in our two parks were plowed. And our pets thank you, too.

* * * * *

Huntingdon — With St. Patrick’s Day upon us, I am tired of the stereotype that all Irish are drunks and brawlers. Get rid of the stigmatism. I am tired of hearing Irish jokes that dwell on leprechauns, drinking, stereotypes and racism. Wearing of the green is Irish tradition. If you’re not Irish, it’s racist to wear green. Dressing up as a Native American is racist. It would be the same as blackface.

* * * * *

Huntingdon — I have to agree with the retired state employee. Wolf gets an increase all the time. They also get their expenses paid to travel. Combine that freebie with all of the other freebies and you see why we are broke.

* * * * *

Huntingdon — I was under the impression that the two Republican candidates for commissioner, Scott Walls and Mark Sather, were sort of running together for re-election. I wonder why then, over the past couple of weeks, I was approached by one individual to sign a petition for Scott Walls and Barry Wright and have recently received two phone calls promoting a Walls/Wright ticket. How many wagons is Walls hitching his horses to?

* * * * *

Mount Union — Fetterman will be coming soon to push his dope on us. Not only are we stupid fools to believe this rhetoric, but blind to the additional costs from lack of workers, employment, breakup of families, and all of our money going to pay for more crime, accidents and cars crashes. Also if you used pot, you cannot drive for 30 days according to law. And you cannot own or carry a gun. I wish the media would make this information more public. What about the additional cost for addict treatment? Where will the new money go? Back to line Fetterman’s pockets? They lied to push gambling, saying we would not have property taxes. Now they are lying again.

* * * * *

Mount Union — #MeToo. The songs that discuss booty and bootylicious, referring to women is sexist and misoganistic. Ban these sexist, violent songs and the videos that show women dressed scantily and shown to be objects of men’s lust! Is this the proper way to raise our families? It’s about time R Kelly fell. Let’s take the rest of them out.

* * * * *

Smithfield Twp. — The current commissioners are showing their true colors and their inability to provide leadership and the financial competence to run our county. It’s time to get back to leadership we can trust.

* * * * *

Huntingdon Co. — Trump is now a four letter word in every language. Our trade and budget deficits are exploding as our Republican senators try to protect the worst excuse for a leader in anyone’s lifetime. Take long note and never forget what has come to hold power in our country. He trusts Kim! Th time has come to save America from the madness. Fools that desire civil war should look at Venezuela now. Is it anarchy you wish? Do you really want to lose everything? As for the Mexican border, put all the adults who come in illegally to work building the wall and border towns for themselves and their families. Keep them all on the border, minimum wage, 20-year path to citizenship. Put them to work! It’s the American dream they came for. Let them buy $38 foam pillows from that lying huckster Mike. Two for $60? What a deal! Mike projects both the individual and collective state of mind of Trumpers, way, way out!

* * * * *

Tell Twp. — First the commissioners attempted to throw the treasurer, Susan Harry, under the bus. Now they are saying that the solicitor made them take her before the judge. Excuses, excuses.

* * * * *

Jackson Twp. — Jackson Township residents need to pay close attention to the supervisors. Township residents beware of your supervisors.

* * * * *

Mount Union — Please pray for the children in this county who are being physically and mentally abused. Too often they don’t get the protection they deserve and need.

* * * * *

Huntingdon Boro. — Neighbors, will you please pick up your dog waste in your yard. It has been laying on top of the snow all winter and is very sickening. Two big dogs make a lot of mess. The Huntingdon Borough ordinance reads that you must pick up after your dog, even if it is in your own yard.

* * * * *

Walker Twp. — Evidently the people writing the letters to the editors don’t know the county treasurer. They don’t know her or they really don’t care. We have a better candidate to vote in office — Tammy Peterson. The treasurer needs the next four years for a higher retirement.

* * * * *

Alexandria — I just listened to Sen. Casey promoting raising the minimum wage to $15/hour. This is all great, but he never mentioned the senior citizens trying to live on $600-$700 Social Security every month. I think they better include these Social Security recipients, too.

* * * * *

Mount Union — For the Trumpers who think they have a good president, can you imagine someone asking you as Trump to come in front of Congress to tell the truth, on record and he won’t even show up? If he was innocent, he could go there and make them all look bad. You know why he didn’t show up? Because he knows he’s been lying for two years. He can’t tell the truth.

* * * * *

Hopewell — Trump’s swamp is overflowing with friends and family. He is giving Ivanka $100 million. Someone said he’s not taking a salary, but he is more than making up for that in benefits, perks and trips, like $80 million to go golfing.

* * * * *

Smithfield — You Democrat socialists who keep knocking President Trump but don’t mind accepting his benefits, like higher interest rates, everyone working who wants a job and a bunch more, get over it. The Democrat socialists lost the election and that is it.

* * * * *

Henderson Twp. — We would like to thank the Henderson Township Supervisors for taking care of and maintaining the Penns Woods Road for the past year. Thanks again.

* * * * *

Three Springs — The Three Springs Senior Center would like to give a big thank you to Glenda and Dennis Irvin for giving us a air hockey game. We really enjoy it. Everyone is welcome to come in and join us. Also a big thank you to Evelyn for donating her time in our thrift shop. Sid for the delicious desserts and Sharon Miller for fixing us breakfast and doing bingo with us. Also, Candy Schneider for the Easter eggs. We would like to say happy birthday to two of our seniors who are celebrating their 90th birthday! Hobert Gutschmidt and Isidore Miller. Happy birthday again! Thanks to everyone! We can’t say thank you enough. We really appreciate it. Thank you to all our great friends out there! May God bless each and every one of you.

* * * * *

Cromwell Twp. — The left wingers and left wing media are still smarting because criminal Clinton didn’t get in there. Wake up America. Average Americans want someone who is for this country.

* * * * *

Logan Twp. — I just read the Opinion Line about the lady in Cromwell Township who informed us that we don’t have to pay our taxes to suit the school board. Whatever they say, we pay. If they tell us, if we live to be 100, we still have to pay per capita tax. This is unlawful and is an abuse to the elderly. Nothing is fair about this. What’s so great about Logan Township? All the drugs going on in here and all the other crap. They worry about old people paying their taxes so they can get their raises. This is not fair and something needs to be done about it.

* * * * *

Huntingdon — Isn’t it amazing how Trump is supposed to be this great financial genius, yet he has put the country into the largest debt in American history. Now to correct all the stupid moves he’s done, he wants to cut programs like Medicare and Medicaid and of course the gutless Republicans are going along with it. Hopefully the Mueller investigation and findings will remove this con-artist from office.

* * * * *

Mount Union — Reading Saturday’s Opinion Line, it appears the commissioners’ race to the judge may just have backfired on them. Did you think this through? You should have just communicated with the treasurer instead of the actions you decided to take. Sorry, but your plan to make Susan Harry look bad just didn’t pan out. Shame on you. I am sure this will not be forgotten before the May primary.

* * * * *

Smithfield Twp. — The Republican Party used to be a conservative class party. What happened to you? The Republican chair puts the county treasurer in. He decides who he wants and puts them in there. Then you have the treasurer doing whatever she wants. Then we have the candidate running for commissioner. He is an auditor. This is not right. Republican Party, where are your morals? Wake up people. God is watching you.

* * * * *

Mount Union — I would like to thank the gentlemen who rescued me at True Value Hardware in Mount Union last week on the coldest day of the year. I had the hood up on my car and the battery was dead. This gentlemen took the time to help me get my car started and made sure I made it home. Most people just drove by and looked. There aren’t many people like him around anymore. Thank you.

* * * * *

Huntingdon Boro. — There have been several comments in the Opinion Line about who is to blame for adding the Bailey Building debt to the Huntingdon County property taxes. When will this debt be paid and be removed from our taxes? Candidates for commissioner, this is a good topic to pursue.

* * * * *

Huntingdon — Do you have to be registered or certified in any type of way to have your own tattooing/body piercing shop to do any type of tattoos or body piercings?

* * * * *

Juniata Twp. — How come the seniors citizens who live in the Huntingdon Area School District have to pay the per capita tax, but senior citizens in the Southern Huntingdon County School District don’t? This doesn’t seem fair.

* * * * *

Smithfield — Gas in Delaware is $2.34/gallon, gas in New York is $2.59/gallon, gas in Ohio is $2.46/gallon, the average price in Pennsylvania is $2.67/gallon. So, why do you think it is going to cost more for things in Pennsylvania if the minimum wage is raised than it does other places? The surrounding states cost no more than here.

* * * * *

Three Springs — I have known county treasurer, Susan Harry, for decades. She is one of the hardest working and biggest hearted people that I know.

* * * * *

Saltillo — I would like to have a phone number that I could call to have unwanted numbers blocked from my phone.

* * * * *

Huntingdon — I have been watching the news channel and I already know which party I am going to vote for. The Democratic Party is giving all kinds of free stuff for citizens, like free college for my five kids, a guaranteed income for all citizens, even if you don’t want to work. It’s about time we got some politicians that take care of their citizens by making the rich pay their fair share and give us free health care and money to buy my drugs. I can’t wait for the 2020 presidential election so I can start taking it easy and live life like I am entitled to as a citizen of the United States.

* * * * *

Huntingdon Co. — I’m putting it in God’s hands that these comments that I am reading in the paper about the treasurer are soon over.

* * * * *

Shade Gap — I am in favor for our three commissioners retaining their positions. All this talk about our treasurer being a watchdog is simply ridiculous. Maybe you need to call your tax collector and see who they’re voting for. Maybe your eyes will be opened.

* * * * *

Cromwell Twp. — There is one sure way to tell if a Democrat is lying under oath. No. 1, his lips are moving and there are dollar signs in his eyes.

* * * * *

Huntingdon — Is someone from The Daily News screening the calls to the Opinion Line and reporting the number and caller ID to certain people running for election? This could be the cause of a lawsuit. This is supposed to be confidential. You just can’t trust anyone.

* * * * *

Mount Union — Happy to hear the borough is trying to solve this snow plowing problem. Now if we could just do something about parking too close to fire hydrants and stop signs.

* * * * *

Orbisonia — If all of the commissioners vote all the same way on all the votes, then that means there is one leader and two followers.

* * * * *

Huntingdon Co. — The fire companies want the municipalities to put a tax on for them. How many more people are there who can’t afford them, like the lady who froze to death because she couldn’t afford to buy oil for heat? No one needs more taxes. If the supervisors of the municipalities were to spend less money on snow removal, they would have money to give to the fire companies. Money is being wasted by a few townships because their subcontractors are making more trips on the road than necessary. How long does it take to plow 10-12 miles of road? It doesn’t seem like the supervisors care about their community. People would be surprised in what is spent on roadwork and most township roads are deplorable.

* * * * *

Shade Gap — Why do all the letters and comments in the opinion line for the treasurer sound the same? It’s like they were read from the same script. I wonder who wrote it.

* * * * *

Smithfield Twp. — If you are against the national health care plan, then you’re not really for the majority of people. If you think Medicare and Social Security are socialism, then I take it you probably wouldn’t want to be collecting it when you are of age. That would be good for everyone else, because some of it is running out. Some of these other countries like Switzerland, they all have top notch health care plans that are free. I don’t know why it wouldn’t work here in the U.S. because we’re supposed to be a country run by the people for the people. It appears the wealthy people are the ones really running the show. The average guy’s health plan has high copays and high deductibles and most of the time it’s not worth the money they have to pay for it.

* * * * *

Huntingdon — I think Huntingdon Borough better learn how to do snow removal better than they did it this past winter. The borough wants to fine people for unclear walk ways, yet it is okay for the borough to have uncleared streets. Wake up people and start going to borough meetings instead of Facebook to complain.

* * * * *

Huntingdon Co. — If people would be God-fearing people they would mind their own business instead of sticking their noses in all their neighbors’ businesses and tell them what to do with their property. That’s the Christian way of doing it. Not trying to tell your neighbor what they have to do.
